Crystal Palace eye ambitious move for table-topping manager to replace Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace are reportedly considering several high-profile candidates to take over from Oliver Glasner as manager when the season ends.

Glasner announced earlier this campaign that he would not be extending his contract with Palace, prompting the club to start compiling a shortlist of potential successors for the Austrian coach.

According to TEAMtalk, the list includes former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, as well as an ambitious potential move for Coventry City manager Frank Lampard.

Other names in the frame are Andoni Iraola, Thomas Frank, and Robbie Keane. However, the link to Lampard is especially intriguing, given the impressive job he has done in guiding Coventry back to the Premier League.

Would Frank Lampard leave Coventry for Palace?

While a move to Crystal Palace would certainly be appealing, it’s difficult to imagine Lampard walking away from Coventry just after securing their return to the top flight.

Lampard has enjoyed a superb season with the Sky Blues, and it’s likely he would want to continue the project and test himself with his current team in the Premier League.

Taking over at Selhurst Park would come with significant pressure to deliver quick results, especially after Glasner’s successful tenure that saw Palace win the FA Cup and Community Shield in the past year.

That said, recent examples show that managers can be tempted away—Enzo Maresca, for instance, led Leicester City to promotion only to quickly join Chelsea rather than stay with the Foxes in the Premier League.

Among the Eagles’ targets, Lampard is probably the most exciting name, with Amorim and Frank appearing to be bigger gambles given their poor spells at Manchester United and Tottenham, respectively.
