Kris Boyd couldn’t hide his excitement after a breathtaking two-minute spell in the first half of Leeds United’s Saturday matchup against Wolves.
Coming off a 2-1 win over Manchester United on Monday, Leeds welcomed Wolves to Elland Road looking to strengthen their survival bid. Facing the league’s bottom side—who could be relegated depending on other results—Daniel Farke’s men pushed for an early breakthrough.
Following a chaotic start filled with Leeds chances, the hosts struck twice in quick succession in the 18th and 20th minutes through James Justin and Noah Okafor. With a Wembley trip on the horizon, the West Yorkshire side are hitting top form at just the right time.
Kris Boyd left stunned as Leeds storm into early lead over Wolves
From the opening minutes, Leeds took control against Wolves, playing with the same confidence they showed against Manchester United. Two goals in two minutes—an overhead kick from Justin followed by Okafor’s close-range finish—left pundit Boyd full of praise on Soccer Saturday.
“It’s an overhead kick. Saved by Bentley, but it comes back out—what a finish,” Boyd said of Justin’s effort. “He gets his body into position and the ball goes through the keeper’s legs. It’s no more than they deserve.”
Leeds then doubled their lead straight after the restart. “Leeds are rampant,” Boyd added. “Okafor had two on Monday, he’s got one already this afternoon. What a counterattack—Aaronson fires a lovely ball across, takes everyone out, and there’s Okafor at the back post to fire it into the ground past the keeper. 2-0.”
With Leeds in complete control, Boyd concluded: “They’ve been unbelievable in this opening 20 minutes.”
Leeds playing with vital confidence in survival fight
After a series of draws before the international break, Leeds returned to winning ways in style at Old Trafford. That confidence has clearly carried over to the Wolves game, with survival now nearly assured for Farke’s side.
Playing with pace and purpose, Leeds dominated the early stages against Wolves, showing the belief gained from recent form—and scoring at home for the first time since early February. With safety all but secured, the Whites are aiming to finish the season strongly, build for next term, and head to Wembley with squad morale at its peak.
