Danny Murphy says former West Ham manager would save Tottenham from relegation
Danny Murphy believes a former West Ham United manager could be the key to rescuing Tottenham Hotspur from relegation danger.
Since taking charge, Igor Tudor has struggled to turn things around, failing to win any of his first five matches.
His only positive result so far has been a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. That poor run has left Spurs sitting 17th in the Premier League, just one point above West Ham.
Murphy has suggested that Tottenham should consider bringing in an experienced figure to guide them through the final stretch of the season. While Tudor remains in charge for now, the club is reportedly assessing potential replacements for the last seven games, with names like Roberto De Zerbi and Adolf Hutter already linked.
However, Murphy’s top recommendation is Sam Allardyce, known for his ability to keep struggling teams in the top flight. His track record with clubs such as West Ham, Sunderland, Everton, and Crystal Palace makes him a strong candidate, although Murphy admitted a return to management may be unlikely.
As another option, he mentioned Tim Sherwood, who previously managed Spurs during the 2013–14 season.
Murphy also touched on West Ham’s situation, expressing confidence in Nuno Espirito Santo to steer them clear of trouble. He highlighted their improved defensive organisation and recent form, noting that their loss to Aston Villa was only their second defeat in seven matches.
In contrast, Tottenham’s ongoing defensive struggles remain a major concern. Based on their remaining fixtures, Murphy warned that Spurs could finish 18th and face relegation to the Championship—a scenario that would undoubtedly please West Ham supporters.
