Leeds United eased their relegation fears on Friday night by defeating Burnley 3-1 at Elland Road, moving nine points clear of the danger zone and virtually securing their place in the Premier League for another season.

However, Saturday’s results injected fresh anxiety into the battle to avoid the drop, as West Ham fell to a 3-0 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

With Tottenham and Nottingham Forest still to play their matches this weekend, the relegation picture is likely to see further dramatic swings before the current round of fixtures concludes. Spurs face a trip to Aston Villa, but it’s their home match against Leeds a week from Monday—widely seen as a must-win—that Tottenham supporters are eyeing with growing confidence. Yet Jason Cundy is urging caution.

Jason Cundy rebukes a Tottenham fan over a Leeds prediction

During talkSPORT’s Game Day phone-in on Saturday evening, hosts Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy took calls and discussed the relegation scrap. One confident Spurs fan rang in and claimed that Leeds would now stay up, while insisting his own team would beat them at home in eight days’ time.

Cundy pushed back strongly, reminding the caller that Tottenham have managed only three Premier League victories since late October. He advised Spurs fans to hold off on any grand predictions, especially before their result against Aston Villa.

Cundy fired back: “You’ve won three games since 26th October. It doesn’t matter what you think—you’ve only won two since Bonfire Night. If I were a Spurs fan, I’d crawl back under a rock and keep very quiet.”

Spurs and West Ham fans have their eyes on Leeds

Leeds now look all but safe after reaching 43 points, but they could still play a decisive role in who ultimately goes down to the Championship. Three of their remaining matches include away trips to Tottenham and West Ham—both of which could prove critical in the releg battle.

Tottenham host Aston Villa this weekend, and there’s a growing feeling that their clash with Leeds a week on Monday is a fixture they simply must win. Meanwhile, West Ham may still have survival hopes riding on the final day of the season when they welcome Leeds to the London Stadium.
