Rob Edwards was left ruing fine margins as his Wolves side fell to a narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux.

João Palhinha scored a late winner for the visitors after a free-kick wasn’t properly cleared, but in the dying seconds, João Gomes’ set-piece was pushed just wide, denying the hosts a dramatic equalizer.

Rob Edwards, who praised his players for their continued commitment despite their relegation already being confirmed, felt his side deserved at least a point from the game.

On the defeat at Molineux
“It was a tough result to accept. We were up against a team with everything to play for. Their motivation is sky-high, with a new, energetic manager, and you can see that energy in his team—but I thought we matched them.
Given everything that’s happened to us this week, the players fought incredibly hard and more than matched that intensity.
In the second half, we were the better team, pushing forward, so conceding the way we did and losing really hurts.”

On João Gomes’ free-kick
“Imagine how everyone would’ve felt if that had gone in at the very end. But that’s football—fine margins. There were a few things wrong leading up to the corner itself, and then the offside call was extremely tight.
That’s just how it goes. With so much riding on the game, it was always going to come down to either a moment of magic—like a free-kick into the top corner—or a second-phase corner where one or two players lose focus, combined with a tight offside decision.”

On Mateus Mané’s performance
“I thought he did really well. A good performance in a tough, high-intensity match, up against some excellent players. I’m very pleased with him today.”

On the impact of relegation
“To be honest, we’ve known the situation for a while now, so we’ve been mentally prepared. A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes. Right now, we’re trying to get results to carry into next season, to keep belief and morale high—which is a challenge because no one likes losing.
The fans were amazing from the first minute to the last today, so it’s frustrating for them when we lose.
Given where we are, we need to find a way to pick up a couple of results, but the lads are approaching it the right way with their mindset and work rate.”

On players continuing to fight
“The effort and commitment were clearly there today—in the running, the duels, all aspects of the game.
I suppose we just lacked that final touch in the attacking third, which is obviously a crucial part of the game.”
