Jude Bellingham Breaks Silence on England Absence as Thomas Tuchel Addresses Croatia Situation

Jude Bellingham has become a major talking point ahead of England’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Croatia, with questions surrounding the Real Madrid midfielder’s availability dominating discussions before Saturday’s fixture.

Bellingham was included in Thomas Tuchel’s original 27-man England squad for the September and October international window and featured during the 2-0 victory over Czechia in Prague. However, the midfielder was only introduced from the bench in that match, replacing Harry Kane in the 71st minute.

Reports subsequently emerged suggesting that Bellingham had picked up a minor problem during England’s win. Tuchel acknowledged that the midfielder had experienced “a little niggle”, although the England manager remained hopeful that it would not prevent him from being involved against Croatia.

The situation naturally attracted attention because England are preparing for another important Nations League fixture. The Three Lions have three points from their opening two matches after losing 3-2 to Spain at Wembley before responding with victory over Czechia.

Croatia represent another difficult challenge, particularly with the match taking place in Rijeka. England are also dealing with several absences during the current international window, including Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento.

Nico O’Reilly has since returned to Manchester City after suffering an injury, with the Football Association confirming that he would miss the remainder of the international window. No replacement was called up.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Bellingham, Tuchel has insisted that England’s preparations have remained positive.

Speaking ahead of the Croatia match, the England manager said his squad had trained at a high level and that all players were involved apart from O’Reilly, who had returned to his club for treatment.

Tuchel also stressed the importance of maintaining concentration despite the relaxed surroundings in Croatia.

“We cannot fall asleep in the beautiful place where we are,” the England boss said, making it clear that his players must remain focused on what is a crucial Nations League fixture.

The Croatia clash is particularly unusual because it will be played behind closed doors following UEFA disciplinary action. Only a limited number of supporters, including local children and some travelling England fans, are expected to be allowed inside the stadium.

For Bellingham, the immediate priority will be determining whether he is physically ready to contribute after the minor issue reported following the Czechia match.

The midfielder remains one of the most important figures in Tuchel’s England setup, and his presence could provide another attacking dimension in midfield against a Croatia side containing considerable experience.

However, England have already demonstrated their ability to adapt during this international window. Anthony Gordon scored in consecutive matches, while Harry Kane and the returning Trent Alexander-Arnold also played important roles during the victory in Prague.

With several established players unavailable, Tuchel may once again have to rely on a combination of experienced stars and emerging options.

The latest developments mean Bellingham’s situation will remain closely monitored as England prepare for the Croatia encounter. While reports have circulated about the reason behind his possible absence, the confirmed information remains that he has been dealing with a minor issue and that his availability is a matter for the England medical and coaching staff.

England will therefore head into the match knowing that another demanding test awaits them, with Tuchel determined to maintain momentum after the victory over Czechia.
