Tottenham handed relegation boost as Rodrigo Bentancur captured in training ground footage

Rodrigo Bentancur has handed Tottenham Hotspur a timely boost after being spotted back in training ahead of their clash with Brighton & Hove Albion this Saturday.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been out of action since early January after picking up a hamstring injury against AFC Bournemouth. Since then, Spurs have struggled badly, failing to record a single win in 2026, leaving manager Roberto De Zerbi searching for immediate solutions to steer the team away from danger.

Injuries to several key players have limited De Zerbi’s options, but Bentancur’s return to training suggests that could soon change. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Uruguayan now appears close to regaining full fitness, offering hope of a comeback in the near future.

Bentancur has been highly regarded since joining Spurs in January 2022, though injuries have regularly disrupted his time in North London. This season has followed a similar pattern, with the midfielder missing 16 matches due to his latest setback.

Encouragingly, recent training footage shows him actively involved in drills, indicating strong progress in his recovery. While the club is expected to manage his return carefully, there is growing optimism that he could soon be back in contention.

Also spotted in training was James Maddison, who has yet to feature this season due to a serious knee injury. His presence adds further hope that Spurs could regain key players during the crucial final stretch of the campaign.

Before his injury, Bentancur had been one of Tottenham’s more reliable performers. He featured in 20 league matches, starting the majority, and maintained solid numbers across the board. His passing accuracy stood at 85 percent, alongside strong defensive contributions, including ball recoveries, tackles, and duels won—without committing errors that led to goals.

With Spurs’ form dipping significantly in his absence, Bentancur’s potential return could prove vital. If he can reintegrate into the squad before the season concludes, he may play a key role in helping Tottenham rediscover stability and secure their place in the league.
