adminLewis Hall has gone viral following his impressive performance in Newcastle United’s 2-1 victory over Hull City, but it was his reaction to the Man of the Match recognition that has attracted even more attention.
The Newcastle defender played a major role in helping his side return to winning ways at St James’ Park on Saturday. Hall scored Newcastle’s second goal in the opening seven minutes, finishing confidently after Harvey Barnes created the opportunity.
His goal came just four minutes after Joe Willock had opened the scoring, giving Newcastle a dream start after their disappointing 4-1 defeat to Leeds United earlier in the week.
Hall continued to impress throughout the contest, contributing defensively while also providing an attacking threat from his position. His performance was eventually recognised with the Man of the Match award, with match ratings also identifying him as one of Newcastle’s standout performers.
However, rather than simply celebrating his individual achievement, Hall reportedly wanted teammate Harvey Barnes to receive the award instead.
Barnes was instrumental in Newcastle’s fast start, providing assists for both Willock and Hall inside the opening seven minutes. His creativity and movement caused problems for Hull’s defence and helped put Newcastle firmly in control early in the match.
Hall’s reaction has therefore attracted significant attention from supporters, with many appreciating the selfless gesture towards his teammate.
The moment highlights the importance of Barnes’ contribution to Newcastle’s victory, despite Hall ultimately receiving the individual recognition.
Newcastle needed the victory after their heavy defeat at Leeds, and they appeared determined from the opening whistle. Willock struck in the third minute before Hall doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Hull responded strongly after the interval, with Mohamed-Ali Cho reducing the deficit in the 67th minute. The visitors pushed for an equaliser during the closing stages, but Newcastle managed to hold on for an important three points.
For Hall, the match was another important step in his development. His goal, defensive work and overall performance helped Newcastle secure the victory, while his willingness to acknowledge Barnes added another memorable moment to the afternoon.
Newcastle will now take confidence from the result as they look to build momentum, while Hall’s performance and his reaction to the award continue to generate discussion among supporters.
