The Hammers secured their fourth consecutive Championship victory in emphatic fashion, dismantling the Welsh side in a one-sided encounter. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team produced an outstanding attacking display, with six different players finding the net during the rout.
Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring before Joel Piroe doubled West Ham’s advantage before the interval. Konstantinos Mavropanos then extended the lead shortly after the restart, leaving Wrexham with an almost impossible task.
Taty Castellanos added another before Mahamadou Kante found the net, while Manor Solomon completed the scoring late in the game with a composed finish into the bottom-right corner.
The result temporarily lifted West Ham to the top of the Championship table ahead of Saturday’s fixtures and further underlined the growing confidence within Espirito Santo’s squad.
However, despite the convincing scoreline, former Wales striker Iwan Roberts was particularly unhappy with what he witnessed during West Ham’s sixth goal.
Roberts criticises Wrexham’s defending
By the time Solomon scored in the 82nd minute, West Ham had already secured the three points. Nevertheless, the build-up to the goal caught Roberts’ attention for all the wrong reasons.
Solomon received the opportunity to score after Kyle Walker-Peters made an impressive run forward from right-back. The West Ham defender was allowed to carry the ball deep into Wrexham territory without facing any meaningful challenge.
That lack of defensive resistance clearly frustrated Roberts, who questioned the character shown by Phil Parkinson’s players during the heavy defeat.
Speaking on BBC Radio Wales, Roberts criticised Wrexham’s defending and suggested the players had effectively given up during the contest.
He highlighted how Walker-Peters was able to carry the ball for around 40 or 50 yards without being challenged, describing the situation as unacceptable at this level.
Solomon subsequently curled his effort into the bottom-right corner to complete West Ham’s remarkable night.
The goal was particularly significant for the Israeli winger, as it marked his second goal for the club following his debut strike against Burnley last month.
West Ham must maintain their momentum
West Ham’s current run represents a remarkable turnaround considering how difficult their return to the Championship initially appeared.
The Hammers failed to win any of their opening three league matches, collecting only two points from those games. Since then, however, Espirito Santo’s side have discovered their rhythm and have transformed their fortunes with a string of impressive performances.
The 6-0 victory over Wrexham was arguably the clearest indication yet that West Ham are beginning to click under their new manager. Their attacking quality, confidence and ruthlessness were evident throughout the encounter.
The challenge now is to ensure that this excellent momentum does not disappear.
West Ham still have important fixtures to negotiate before the upcoming extended international break. They are scheduled to face Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday before meeting fierce local rivals Millwall in a highly anticipated derby.
Winning both matches would provide an even bigger boost and allow West Ham to enter the three-week international break full of confidence.
After a difficult beginning to their Championship campaign, the Hammers now appear to be gathering serious momentum at exactly the right time.
