adminNewcastle United have received a major boost with defender Lewis Hall agreeing a new five-year contract that will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2031.
According to The Times, the club is expected to officially confirm the agreement on Wednesday, bringing an end to growing speculation surrounding the 22-year-old’s future.
The new deal will be particularly welcomed by manager Matthias Jaissle after Manchester United showed strong interest in Hall during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils reportedly identified the Newcastle full-back as their preferred option to replace Luke Shaw and were willing to offer around £60 million to secure his signature.
Newcastle, however, made their position clear by refusing to consider selling one of their key young players. Their stance has now been rewarded, with Hall committing his long-term future to the Magpies.
The improved terms are also expected to make Hall one of Newcastle’s highest earners, underlining just how important the club considers the England international to be.
Hall initially arrived at Newcastle from Chelsea on a season-long loan in August 2023, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent. That clause was eventually triggered in July 2024, allowing the defender to make his move to Tyneside permanent.
Since then, Hall has established himself as an important member of the Newcastle squad, making 106 appearances and contributing three goals and eight assists across his time with the club.
The defender will now turn his attention to securing a more prominent role with England. Hall has already earned four senior caps but was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
With the next European Championship scheduled for 2028, Hall will be determined to establish himself as a regular starter for the Three Lions over the coming years.
For Newcastle, retaining Hall represents another statement of intent. The club have managed to fend off interest from one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, while Jaissle can now plan for the future with one of his most valuable defensive players tied down until 2031.
