Sunderland in Talks for Everton Target as Surprise Player Linked With Premier League Rival

SUNDERLAND IN TALKS FOR EVERTON TARGET AS SURPRISE PLAYER LINKED WITH MOVE TO PREMIER LEAGUE RIVAL

Sunderland are continuing their busy transfer deadline day activity as they explore another attacking option, with the club also keeping tabs on a player who has attracted interest from Premier League rivals.

The Black Cats have been one of the most active clubs during the closing stages of the transfer window as manager Régis Le Bris looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Sunderland had reportedly shown interest in Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, with Everton also pushing strongly to bring the England international back to the club following his successful loan spell at Goodison Park last season.

Grealish enjoyed a productive period with Everton before an injury brought his campaign to an early end. The 30-year-old recorded two goals and six assists in 20 Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 season.

However, Everton now appear to have the advantage in the race for his signature. Reports indicate that Grealish has prioritised a return to Everton, with the Toffees working towards another loan agreement with Manchester City.

That development has forced Sunderland to consider alternative targets as they attempt to complete their late business.

The Black Cats have already been working on several deals, including a move for Lyon winger Malick Fofana and a loan agreement for Tottenham defender Kevin Danso. Sunderland have also been linked with Sporting winger Geny Catamo and other attacking options.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Sunderland’s recruitment team are understood to be exploring opportunities that could provide Le Bris with additional quality and depth.

The club’s ambition has been clear since securing promotion back to the Premier League, and their transfer activity reflects their determination to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Everton are also involved in a hectic final day. The Merseyside club have been pursuing several additions, including Folarin Balogun and Grealish, while also dealing with departures and other negotiations.

The developing situation means Sunderland could have another surprise move to complete before the deadline. If their pursuit of Grealish ultimately fails, attention will quickly turn to the alternative target identified by the club.

With only hours remaining, Sunderland supporters will be watching closely to see whether the Black Cats can pull off another late deal and add another major name to their Premier League squad.
