The match looked destined to remain goalless for long periods, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Sunderland worked hard but found Fulham difficult to break down, while the visitors were unable to seriously test Robin Roefs.
Then Régis Le Bris turned to his substitutes.
Isidor was introduced in the 64th minute, replacing Brian Brobbey, and it did not take long for the forward to make his presence felt. His movement immediately offered Sunderland a different threat and gave the Fulham defence something new to worry about.
The striker came agonisingly close to opening the scoring just minutes before his eventual goal. Enzo Le Fée found him with a low ball across the penalty area, but Isidor struck the post when he appeared certain to score.

Habib Diarra, another second-half substitute, found space on the right before sending the ball across the Fulham goal. Bernd Leno was unable to cut out the delivery, leaving Isidor with the opportunity to finish from close range.
This time, he made no mistake.
The finish sent the Stadium of Light into celebration and gave Sunderland their first Premier League victory of the season.
Isidor changed the game
What made Isidor’s performance particularly encouraging was not simply the goal.
Sunderland had struggled to find an attacking breakthrough before his arrival, but the forward brought energy, movement and greater urgency to the final third.
His ability to attack spaces also helped create a different dynamic for Le Bris’ side. Instead of simply waiting for chances, Sunderland suddenly had a forward willing to run at the Fulham defence and make things happen.
The fact that Isidor responded so positively after hitting the post could be even more significant.
Many forwards might have allowed such a miss to affect their confidence. Isidor instead stayed involved and eventually found the decisive opening.
For Sunderland, that could prove extremely valuable as the campaign develops.
A potential weapon for Régis Le Bris
Le Bris will understandably avoid making too many conclusions from one substitute appearance, but Isidor has certainly given his manager something to consider.
The Premier League season will demand depth and flexibility, particularly when Sunderland face opponents who sit deep and make chances difficult to create.
Having a forward who can come from the bench and immediately inject pace and movement could become a major advantage.
Isidor has now shown that he can provide exactly that.
The timing is also encouraging for the striker, who recently committed his future to Sunderland with a new contract running until 2030.
One goal does not guarantee a starting place, but it certainly strengthens his case.
Sunderland fans have plenty to be excited about
The victory itself was important.
After losing their opening league fixture, Sunderland needed a response, and they got it in front of their home supporters.
The defensive performance was also impressive, with Fulham failing to register a shot on target according to match statistics. Sunderland eventually found the breakthrough through their substitutes and held on to secure all three points.
For Isidor, however, this could be the beginning of something bigger.
He did not need 90 minutes to make an impact.
He needed only a short spell on the pitch and one more opportunity after his initial miss.
He took it.
Now the challenge is consistency.
If Isidor can reproduce the energy, movement and composure he displayed against Fulham, Sunderland may have found a very useful attacking weapon for the long Premier League campaign ahead.
For supporters at the Stadium of Light, the message is simple: the Isidor hype has started.
One substitute appearance.
One winning goal.
Three crucial points.
And perhaps the emergence of a player who could become increasingly important to Sunderland this season.
