adminTottenham Hotspur have completed their eighth signing of a busy summer transfer window, bringing in Omar Marmoush from Manchester City on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to make the transfer permanent.
Marmoush becomes the latest arrival at Tottenham under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who took charge in March and successfully guided Spurs away from relegation before receiving more than £300 million to reshape his squad during the summer.
After completing the signing of Savio on Tuesday in a deal worth up to £85 million, Tottenham returned to Manchester City on Thursday to finalise their second deal of the week. Marmoush has now joined Spurs on loan, with the move set to become permanent next summer for an initial £50 million, plus a further £10 million in potential add-ons.
Speaking after completing his move, Marmoush expressed his excitement about joining the north London club.
“It feels amazing to be here. I’m so excited to get started with the team and I can’t wait to meet the fans.
“Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the project was very attractive to me.
“I’ve spoken with the head coach, I loved what he had to say and I’m sure our passion for the game will go very well together.”
The Egyptian international is a player Tottenham have admired for several years. Spurs monitored his progress during Ange Postecoglou’s time as manager before Marmoush eventually moved to Manchester City in 2025 following an outstanding spell with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Marmoush previously enjoyed loan spells with Stuttgart and St Pauli before establishing himself at Wolfsburg, where he played alongside his new Tottenham team-mate Micky van de Ven.
His performances earned him a move to Frankfurt, where he produced an impressive 37 goals and 20 assists during an exceptional 18-month spell. That form eventually convinced Manchester City to pay around £59 million for his services.
Although Marmoush made an immediate impact at City, including scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle United during his fifth appearance, consistent opportunities were difficult to find with Erling Haaland ahead of him in the attacking pecking order.
He leaves the Etihad having scored 16 goals in 62 appearances, with Tottenham now hoping to unlock the form that made him one of Europe’s most exciting attackers.
De Zerbi believes Marmoush possesses exactly the qualities Tottenham need as they look to improve their attacking options.
“Omar is exactly the kind of player we want at this club – ambitious, hungry and determined to make a difference,” De Zerbi said.
“He has incredible attacking quality but what I also love is his desire to improve and to win.
“He brings pace, intelligence and a real threat in front of goal, and I believe he can take our attacking play to another level.”
It is also understood that Manchester City have already met their financial obligations to Frankfurt following Marmoush’s previous transfer, while no sell-on clause was included in the agreement that brought the player to the Etihad.
Marmoush’s arrival is also likely to please fellow Egyptian Mido, the former Tottenham striker who publicly recommended the forward to Spurs on X two years ago.
The move significantly strengthens Tottenham’s attacking options at a time when De Zerbi is dealing with a number of fitness concerns. James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus are among those still working towards full match sharpness, while several other players remain sidelined with long-term injuries.
Marmoush now has the opportunity to make an immediate impression. Following Savio’s impressive goalscoring debut against Charlton Athletic, where he produced an electric 19-minute cameo, Spurs supporters will be eager to see whether Marmoush can make his own mark when Tottenham face Newcastle United on Saturday.
