Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao this summer, although the North London club are yet to decide whether to pursue a deal.
According to Italian journalist Daniele Longo, Leao has been made available to Tottenham as his representatives continue to explore potential destinations for the Portuguese international.
The 27-year-old endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign with Milan, scoring just 10 goals and registering three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. Despite his underwhelming numbers, Leao remains an attractive target for several clubs, with Aston Villa and Galatasaray also reportedly interested.
Aston Villa are believed to have already submitted an offer for the winger, while discussions are ongoing between the Premier League club and Leao’s representatives regarding personal terms.
However, Leao’s camp are keeping other options open and have once again contacted Tottenham about a possible move.
Tottenham Could Add Leao to New-Look Attack
Tottenham have undergone significant changes during the current transfer window, investing around £237 million in defensive and midfield reinforcements earlier in the summer.
Their focus has now shifted towards strengthening the attack, with Spurs securing deals for two Manchester City forwards.
Savinho has arrived for an initial £75 million, while Omar Marmoush is expected to join Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy.
A move for Leao could give Tottenham another major attacking option and potentially allow them to build an entirely new-look front three.
Savinho is expected to operate from the right flank, while Marmoush could feature through the middle. That would leave the left-wing position available, particularly with Xavi Simons continuing his recovery from an ACL injury.
Leao could be an ideal candidate to occupy that role.
Longo claims the Portuguese winger has been ‘proposed’ to Tottenham once again, with his representatives having first approached the club about a potential transfer in mid-July before returning to the negotiating table this week.
Tottenham, however, have yet to make a formal follow-up move, meaning the opportunity remains open.
Leao Could Bring Something Different
Although Leao has faced criticism for aspects of his defensive contribution, his attacking qualities could make him an exciting complement to Savinho and Marmoush.
Savinho offers creativity and flair, while Marmoush is renowned for his finishing ability. Leao provides a combination of both qualities, although he generally prefers taking on defenders and creating shooting opportunities for himself rather than consistently setting up teammates.
At his best, the Milan winger is an outstanding ball carrier and dribbler who can make a significant impact in the final third.
That could be particularly valuable for Tottenham, who currently lack players capable of consistently beating opponents through dribbling and carrying the ball over distance.
Adding both Leao and Savinho would immediately give Spurs considerably more pace, directness and individual quality in one-on-one situations.
Portugal legend Nani is also a huge admirer of Leao. Speaking exclusively to GMS in 2025, the former Manchester United winger described his compatriot as a ‘world-class’ player.
With Leao now reportedly available, Tottenham must decide whether the opportunity to bring another elite attacking talent to North London is one they want to pursue.
