Next month, Providence College’s annual basketball Late Night Madness event will have a little taste of country. The Zac Brown Band will perform the Amica Mutual Pavilion on October 19th, the Friars announced on Monday morning. The three-time Grammy winners will play on a schedule that also features appearances by a few local dancing and singing groups, as well as some light basketball.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the evening program will begin 30 minutes later. The event is part of the school’s Homecoming Weekend and follows previous appearances by the likes of John Legend, Khalid and OneRepublic. Providence coaches Kim English and Erin Batth are scheduled to appear along with their teams.
The Friars will introduce their rosters and stage a 3-point shooting contest prior to the accompanying entertainment. Providence announced the A Capella Club, Irish Dance Club, Dance Company, Dance Club and Motherland Dance Group are all expected to perform. Student and school tickets were scheduled to be on sale before public availability.
Zac Brown Band was on the weekend bill with Kenny Chesney, Uncle Kracker and Megan Moroney at Gillette Stadium as part of the New England Country Music Festival. The group was inducted into the Fenway Music Hall of Fame in 2022 and is on a current run of sold out shows at Fenway Park. They’ve sold more than nine million albums and produced 16 singles that have reached No. 1 on various radio outlets.
