For Spurs, the summer sale of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle to Barcelona—for nearly £70m—sets a benchmark for Premier League wingers. Gordon managed 31 league goals in 176 appearances for Everton and Newcastle, while Gakpo has 32 in 127 games for Liverpool.
Liverpool might also point to the reported £100m+ valuations for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and PSG’s Bradley Barcola.
Gakpo’s on-field impact can sometimes be inconsistent, so he may not command that kind of figure, but Tottenham would likely need to match what Barcelona paid for Gordon.
Where Would De Zerbi Deploy Gakpo?
If Dominic Solanke remains the primary striker, Gakpo would probably feature on the left flank—his longtime role.
Yet at 27, he isn’t most effective when isolated against a full-back; he thrives more when arriving late to finish chances. A central striking role might suit him better, potentially creating a tough selection headache for De Zerbi up front in the 2026-27 season.
