Personal terms aren’t expected to cause issues. Spurs have been cleared to open formal talks, and Osimhen—hailed as the “best striker in the world” by Nigeria coach Eric Chelle—is said to be keen on joining Roberto De Zerbi’s project.
Tottenham have already splashed over £230 million this window on recruits like Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke. Yet the hierarchy remain determined to add more firepower before the deadline.
De Zerbi’s Richarlison uncertainty
The striker pursuit comes amid confusion over Richarlison’s future. De Zerbi admits he’s still in the dark about whether the Brazilian will stay for the coming season.
“I don’t know, because I like him as a player and as a person,” De Zerbi said. “His attitude and behaviour are outstanding. But ultimately, we must respect his wishes. I haven’t fully understood—sometimes he says he wants to stay, other times he wants to leave.”
Despite the ambiguity, the manager praised Richarlison’s effort and influence. Finding a like-for-like replacement would be tough if he departs.
“He scored 12 goals last season—not by luck, but because he knows how to finish,” De Zerbi added. “Everyone loves him—teammates, staff, the club—because he works tirelessly every single day. On the pitch, we have zero complaints.”
A radical overhaul after relegation scares
This £237 million spending frenzy is a direct response to Tottenham’s domestic turmoil. Back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League saw them escape relegation only on the final day of last season.
Now, the club’s leadership is focused on giving De Zerbi a squad strong enough to climb the table and avoid a repeat of the previous two campaigns’ failures.
Closing out a blockbuster window
Tottenham will now aim to close the £10 million gap in their valuation with Galatasaray to land Osimhen. Meanwhile, De Zerbi faces crucial talks with Richarlison to determine his future before the transfer deadline.
