Millions of fans have signed a petition calling for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup winners to be BANNED from future tournaments—but their outrage is only growing after learning that Argentina already have a guaranteed spot in 2030, despite hosting just a single match.

Lionel Scaloni’s side will benefit from automatic qualification, alongside Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, who are the official co-hosts of the 2030 World Cup. Even more controversially, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay have all been given places simply for hosting their countries’ opening fixtures in the centenary edition.

Meanwhile, England—who are set to welcome European nations for the 24-team Euros—aren’t yet assured of a place in their own home tournament.

Matches will be held at Wembley, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Etihad, Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, St James’ Park, and Villa Park.

Typically, tournament hosts are automatically entered—just as the USA, Canada, and Mexico were for this summer’s World Cup. But new UEFA qualification rules mean England must compete alongside all 50 other nations in one of 12 groups of four or five teams for Euro 2028, with no special treatment guaranteed.

They will, however, be kept apart from Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland—who are also co-hosting.

Group winners will qualify automatically, along with the eight best runners-up. That accounts for 20 of the 24 spots, with two places reserved for hosts in case they fail to qualify through the groups.

If at least two of the other hosts do qualify via the groups, England would be guaranteed a place regardless of their own performance—though failing to finish in the top two would raise serious questions.

If three or four hosts miss out through group play, only the two highest-ranked among them would receive the designated host spots. Given England’s world-class standing, their place is all but secure.

Still, at a time when Argentina faces heavy criticism for both on- and off-field behavior, their first-class ticket to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco has left football fans frustrated.
