adminMicky van de Ven has spoken about the impact Roberto De Zerbi has made at Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting the Italian has transformed the team’s style while appearing to take a subtle swipe at former boss Thomas Frank.
Thomas Frank’s spell in north London proved to be short-lived, with his more cautious tactical approach failing to win over many Spurs supporters.
As results and performances declined, the relationship between the fans and the club became increasingly strained, leading to his dismissal after just eight months in charge.
Since taking over, De Zerbi has restored optimism around Tottenham with his attacking philosophy, steering the club away from relegation trouble and reigniting belief among the supporters. The Italian is now expected to push Spurs towards much bigger ambitions next season.
Van de Ven believes Tottenham will be a far more exciting side under De Zerbi. The Dutch defender praised the manager for bringing fresh energy, passion and a stronger mentality to the squad, while admitting he prefers the possession-based style the Italian has introduced.
Speaking to Football.London, Van de Ven said: “I know that for sure. It’s going to be different compared to the former manager we had last season. It’s going to be more with the ball, more playing football. I think it’s going to be more enjoyable for people to watch, playing offensive football.
“The last couple of weeks of last season, you saw he brought a lot of passion into our group, a lot mentality-wise, passion-wise, on the pitch. It is something we needed because everybody was a little bit down.
“We started to play a lot with the ball because he loves us to be on the ball. He loves to play the football he wants to play, and that’s also something I really enjoy.”
Van de Ven’s comments underline the growing confidence within the Tottenham squad that De Zerbi’s attacking philosophy will not only produce more entertaining football but also help the club compete at a much higher level in the season ahead.
