Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest have initiated discussions regarding a potential move for highly rated midfielder Lucas Bergvall.
While Spurs are not actively looking to offload the Sweden international, they would consider sanctioning a transfer should their valuation be met.
Despite being named Tottenham Hotspur Official Supporters’ Player of the Season for 2024/25, the 20-year-old, described as “unstoppable,” found game time hard to come by last term. Since Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment in March, Bergvall has been largely sidelined, logging just 112 minutes and making only one start during the season’s final stretch.
With Spurs aggressively reshaping their midfield through the marquee arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, Bergvall’s camp is increasingly concerned that his path to regular first-team football will be blocked.
Bergvall, who recently represented Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, outlined his priorities following his nation’s exit. The midfielder emphasised that consistent game time in his preferred central role is his primary objective and has informed the Spurs hierarchy of his desire to seek a fresh challenge that offers a clear developmental pathway.
For Nottingham Forest, securing a talent like Bergvall would represent a major statement of intent under new head coach Oliver Glasner. Midfield reinforcements have become a priority following the record-breaking £116 million sale of England international Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.
The club are prepared to utilise their newly acquired funds to land a new midfield general, though meeting Tottenham’s valuation remains a significant hurdle. Spurs are believed to be demanding around £50 million for Bergvall, who is also attracting interest from Newcastle United.
