The campaign featured two managerial changes before the club finally found some stability, following a dismal 2026 that saw them go winless in the league for the first four months.
The decision to bring in Roberto De Zerbi turned out to be a masterstroke for the north London side, who had floundered for much of the season. De Zerbi delivered on his promise by keeping Spurs in the top flight, and in return, he’s been handed a significant war chest to reshape the squad. Redknapp is now backing the Italian to guide the team to a top-five finish after their spending spree.
De Zerbi has wasted no time bolstering his ranks, bringing in six new faces with a heavy emphasis on Premier League experience. The total outlay stands at £237 million, making it the second-largest transfer spend in Tottenham’s history—and the new arrivals have already sparked plenty of excitement among fans.
Among those optimistic is former boss Harry Redknapp, who believes Spurs can challenge for a Champions League berth despite finishing 17th last term. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I think Tottenham have made some great signings. I’d be surprised if they aren’t in the top five next year. With that squad and that manager, they’re more than capable. Top four, top five—I’ve no doubt they’ll be pushing those teams for a Champions League place.”
Redknapp also singled out several new recruits for praise, including Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Fernandes. He highlighted their professionalism, experience, and fit within De Zerbi’s system.
“Robertson from Liverpool—what a professional. Just the type you want in your dressing room and on the pitch. He’s been there, done it all. I love him as a player and as a person. He’s a great signing, a bit understated too.
“Senesi, the Bournemouth centre-half—I watched a lot of him last year and the year before. He’s a top player and a great acquisition. Van Hecke from Brighton, plus the two midfielders—Tottenham are really going to push for a Champions League place, and I think they’ve got every chance of doing that.”
