The Bronx Bombers are immersed in a slide of bad results, with 12 losses in their last 17 games.
When it comes to the New York Yankees, everything is exaggerated. If the New York Yankees are on a little winning streak, fans begin to plan for the World Series. Conversely, if the team suffers a few losses, social media is inundated with hundreds of messages demanding for the ouster of manager Aaron Boone or even general manager Brian Cashman. This has been the case since the league’s inception, and it will continue for as long as baseball exists. The Yankees, whether you like them or not, are the most important organization in Major League Baseball, and each of their games is watched by people all around the globe.
With 12 losses in their last 17 games, many people forget that the Yankees still have the third best record in baseball (54-33) and are in a razor-thin pennant chase with the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. To stay on track for October, they will almost probably need to make a few moves to strengthen their lineup.
With Giancarlo Stanton back on the injured list, the Bronx Bombers’ lineup is led by Aaron Judge (213 OPS+) and Juan Soto (182 OPS+). According to former general manager Jim Bowden, the Yankees are looking at numerous positions as the July 30 trade deadline approaches.
“I’m told the Yankees front office is exploring the trade market to see what hitters might be available, and are looking in particular at first, second and third base to upgrade or get better platoon-type options,” Bowden wrote for The Athletic.
According to some pundits, the Yankees would prefer to keep rookie Ben Rice at first base while Anthony Rizzo recovers. Rice (104 OPS+) has shown to be a solid hitter. However, second and third base are the pinstripes’ top priorities.
