Alan Shearer tears into Chelsea over ‘embarrassing’ Granit Xhaka transfer bid and backs Sunderland

Alan Shearer has thrown his support behind Sunderland and slammed Chelsea’s reported opening offer for Granit Xhaka as “embarrassing.”

The midfielder has been at the center of intense transfer talk recently, with Chelsea rumored to be eager to link up with the Sunderland captain once again under Xabi Alonso.

However, The Echo understands that Sunderland have no interest in entertaining bids for Xhaka at this point and consider him firmly off the market.

“Sunderland paid £17m for Granit Xhaka, and last season he was among the Premier League’s top performers—not just for Sunderland, but across the entire league,” Shearer told The Metro.

“And Chelsea think they can waltz in with an offer under half of what Sunderland originally paid, and that’s somehow reasonable?

“It just doesn’t make sense to me. I get that he might want to move, and clearly his agent has been speaking with Chelsea, but to submit such a low-ball bid just a year after he cost £17m and delivered standout performances all season—it’s frankly embarrassing from Chelsea.

There’s no chance they land him for that kind of money. Why would any club sell a player for less than half his price tag when he’s proven to be one of the league’s best? It’s absurd.”
