Prabhas launched The Script Craft, a platform aimed at developing opportunities for aspiring screenwriters
The stars of Indian cinema aren’t just defined by the box-office pull, opening numbers or the number of blockbuster films in their filmography. It is also about what they give back to the cinema that gave them everything. That is why actor Prabhas’ latest initiative is considered as an important step ahead in the assimilation of worthy talent into the world of cinema. Developed by his close friends Pramod Uppalapati and Thaalla Vaishnav, Prabhas launched The Script Craft, a platform aimed at developing opportunities for aspiring screenwriters. Sharing this announcement on his social media accounts, Prabhas wrote, “Share your story, inspire the world on this platform, where writers bring their words to life and the audience votes to shape reality. Join the movement.”
Through The Script Craft, writers can submit a 250-word synopsis of their idea, which would then be reviewed by the users of the platform with the highest-rated ideas getting most visibility. It is aimed at creating an exchange of opinions to build a constructive environment for feedback and more.
The makers have announced a writing contest with the prompt being, “Imagine your favourite hero with superpowers.” Writers are asked to submit a 3500-word story, and the winner has a chance to either be an assistant writer or assistant director on an actual project. While this does seem like an interesting idea, it also raises a big red flag. What if someone ‘steals’ the idea? Even though the platform has provided a disclaimer urging the aspiring writers to exercise caution and copyright their work before submitting, it would be interesting to see if this digital version of the writers’ room manages to assuage these fears, and foster a healthy space for exchange of ideas and opinions.
