Sweden’s 4 Nations Team Named with Penguins Defenseman
The Pittsburgh Penguins are sure to have multiple representatives at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
The NHL has started releasing rosters for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, and a Pittsburgh Penguins superstar is among the initial names. The NHL announced the first six players set to participate for Team Sweden and Finland with defenseman Erik Karlsson taking a spot on Team Sweden.
Karlsson is coming off a productive IIHF World Championship, where he helped lead Sweden to a bronze medal as captain. A native of Landsbro, Sweden, Karlsson is a 15-year NHL veteran and was a sure lock to make the 4 Nations Face-Off squad.
Recently surpassing 1,000 games played, (1,002) Karlsson is looking to bring a much better output in his second season with the Penguins. In 2023-24, while appearing in all 82 games, he scored 11 goals and 45 assists for 56 total points, well below what was expected.
Over his career, Karlsson has become known as one of the best offensive defensemen of all time, with 189 goals and 628 assists for 817 points. Already a sure Hall of Famer when his career concludes, the three-time Norris Trophy winner is still hunting for his first Stanley Cup.
No Penguins were listed in Team Finland’s first six. Initial names are still to be released for Team Canada and USA.
