Oliver Glasner has been overheard in the background of a Crystal Palace training video singing the praises of Daichi Kamada.
Specifically, the Austrian was surprised by one thing the Japan international did – with his shocked tone suggesting this was not something he witnessed from the midfielder too often at Eintracht Frankfurt.
What Oliver Glasner said about Daichi Kamada
By the sounds of it, Kamada did not use his left foot a lot in front of Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt.
After Crystal Palace posted a 22-second video of the Japanese maestro doing a finishing drill on Tuesday, some interesting comments could be heard after he executes one superb, powerful finish on his left foot.
“Daichi! Left foot, huh? You trained it in Rome with the left foot?”
An unrecognised voice, possibly Paddy McCarthy, can also be heard saying “you said he couldn’t finish on his left” – so it certainly seems as if Kamada has been working to improve his weaker foot.
Transfermarkt shows that the man from Iyo has actually scored 17 of his 74 career goals using his left foot, which is not a bad return by any means.
Kamada netted ten goals on his left foot while playing under Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt, but perhaps the man from Salzburg has never witnessed such a ferocious effort from the 27-year-old on his weaker side.
Crystal Palace fans should be excited
In Kamada, Dougie Freedman has signed a highly versatile player who offers quality in several positions.
The free transfer from Lazio can clearly find the net in an attacking No.10 role – based on this training footage.
However, Kamada was also seen sitting alongside Cheick Doucoure pulling the strings in a deeper No.6 role during a recent training match, so it would appear Glasner has signed a player who can fill numerous areas on the pitch for Crystal Palace.
With a full pre-season under his belt, and familiarity of playing under Glasner, Kamada is in a position to start the 2024/25 campaign superbly for Crystal Palace.
