Novak Djokovic has provided an update on his schedule following his exit from the Qatar Open.
The Serbian returned to action in the Middle East following a hamstring injury sustained at the Australian Open.
But his campaign did not last long as Djokovic lost to Matteo Berrettini 6-7(4), 2-6 in his opening round contest.
Now the 37-year-old is looking ahead to his next events as he aims to improve his level and overall fitness.
Novak Djokovic has now played in three tournaments since the 2025 season commenced.
The former World number won seven of his 10 matches so far, but he has yet to win a championship.
He will not have another chance to claim a historic 100th title until the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open, where Djokovic plans to play next.
“I was planning to go to Indian Wells and Miami, so I’ll talk with my team after I finish with this tournament,” Djokovic told reporters after losing at the Qatar Open.
Djokovic has been very successful at those tournaments, having won Indian Wells five times and he has lifted the Miami Open title on six occasions.
Does Novak Djokovic plan to change his game due to more injuries?
Despite Djokovic’s excellent level of play that allowed him to win three Grand Slam titles in 2023 and the Olympic gold medal in 2024, father time is undefeated.
As the 24-time major winner continues into the twilight of his career, he now seems to be suffering from more injuries.
Djokovic underwent knee surgery in 2024 which forced him to withdraw from the French Open, and a hamstring injury derailed his chances of an 11th Australian Open title.
Despite the higher risk of physical injury Djokovic does not plan to make any changes to his game. “I am trying to improve my game, as everybody else, but, you know, my game is not going to change drastically now,” he said.
“I’m not going to play serve and volley, maybe every once in a while, but my game is what it is, the core is going to be the same. I’m going to try, obviously, to adjust depending upon the surface that I play on and so forth.
“So, yeah, there’s more injuries, for sure. Things are not the same like 10 years ago, 15 years ago. I still try to take care of my body on a daily basis, and, yeah, it’s more challenging now, no doubt, but, you know, I still try to do my very best, given the circumstances.”
