Today, October 5, 2018, South African National Parks (SANParks) revealed that two day visitors were involved in a fatal car accident yesterday late afternoon while traveling between the Olifants and Letaba camps in the Kruger National Park (KNP). According to preliminary accounts, there didn’t seem to be any other vehicles involved. The SAPS is currently looking into the incident and its surroundings. Emergency responders and rangers raced to help, but sadly nothing could be done to save the tourists’ lives. The vehicle drove off the road and flipped, according to witnesses; the two occupants were ejected and declared dead at the spot. Glenn Phillips, the Managing Executive of the KNP, responded to the news by extending his deepest sympathies to the families of the departed.
In addition, we would like to make a request that people refrain from speculating on the situation and give the SAPS the freedom to carry out their investigation, the findings of which will be shared with the families when it is appropriate. We would like to remind everyone who visits the park to abide by traffic laws, drive at the posted speed limit, and exercise caution at all times. In order to avoid the necessity for speeding, we urge guests to schedule their travels between gates and camps as the holiday season draws near in two months, Phillips said. Since their next of kin have not been notified, the deceased’s name cannot be made public.
