Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2024 season, marking the first time in his career he has received this honor. Allen led the Bills to a 13-4 record and the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs.
During the regular season, Allen completed 63.6% of his passes for 3,731 yards, with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also showcased his dual-threat capabilities by rushing for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The MVP race was notably close, with Allen receiving 27 out of 50 first-place votes, while Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson garnered 23 votes. This marks the closest MVP contest since 2016, when Matt Ryan secured the award
Following the announcement, Allen shared photos from the NFL Honors event on social media, expressing gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans. He also delivered an emotional acceptance speech, highlighting the support from his family and fiancée, actress Hailee Steinfeld.
Despite Allen’s impressive season, some analysts and fans were surprised by the MVP outcome, given Jackson’s superior statistical performance, including 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and 915 rushing yards. This has sparked discussions about the criteria used for MVP selection.
Allen’s journey to this accolade has been remarkable. Starting as a no-star recruit, he played at Reedley College and the University of Wyoming before being drafted by the Bills in 2018. Since then, he has been instrumental in elevating the team’s performance, culminating in this MVP recognition.
