Everton look set to be involved in another relegation battle this season.
Sean Dyche’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton on the weekend which has ramped the pressure up on the former Burnley boss.
Some sections of the Everton fanbase have called for David Moyes to replace Dyche whilst others remain in favour of keeping him until the stadium move.
Either way, something needs to change at Everton if they’re to avoid being dragged into a relegation dogfight.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been misfiring and it’s become clear The Toffees need to sign a more prolific striker in January.
And, there is an obvious replacement out there.
Everton should try to sign Tammy Abraham
Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks completely bereft of confidence having netted just two Premier League goals this season.
Everton fans have called for Calvert-Lewin to be dropped, so evidently, there are striking issues at the football club.
To solve that, Everton should try to sign AC Milan centre-forward Tammy Abraham in the January transfer window.
The Toffees showed an interest in Abraham in the summer before he completed a permanent switch to Milan.
Though, that move hasn’t really worked so far as he’s been named on the bench on several occasions this season.
So, perhaps Everton could convince Abraham to return to England.
Abraham stats compared to Calvert-Lewin
Interestingly, according to FBref data, Abraham is of a very similar profile to Calvert-Lewin, so he should be a natural fit in Dyche’s system.
Here are how their statistics compare.
Stats per 90 | Tammy Abraham | Dominic Calvert-Lewin |
Shot-creating actions | 2.01 | 1.96 |
Progressive passes | 1.30 | 1.21 |
Progressive carries | 1.30 | 1.25 |
Touches in attacking penalty area | 5.32 | 5.03 |
Evidently, Abraham’s underlying data is slightly better than Calvert-Lewin’s and if given the chance, he’s a proven goalscorer at the highest level.
So Everton should go all out to land his signature this winter.
