A tragic car accident in Napoleon Township, Michigan, left one woman dead and her husband in critical condition. On October 30, first responders arrived at a crash site at the intersection of Brooklyn Road and Napoleon Road after receiving reports of a collision. Upon arrival, they found that a Kia SUV, driven by 79-year-old Gary Burnette, had collided with a westbound semi-truck on Brooklyn Road. Ruth Ann, Gary’s 80-year-old wife, was a passenger in the vehicle.
Authorities believe the accident occurred as the Kia attempted a left turn onto eastbound Brooklyn Road from southbound Napoleon Road, leading it directly into the path of the oncoming semi-truck. Despite the truck driver’s efforts to avoid the collision, a crash ensued. The impact left both Gary and Ruth Ann with severe injuries, prompting emergency personnel to transport them to Henry Ford Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Ruth Ann succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted, while Gary remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 40-year-old man from Ironwood, Michigan, was also injured in the crash. After being treated at a local hospital, he was released later that day. The incident is under investigation by local law enforcement to better understand the circumstances surrounding the collision.
