Crystal Palace enjoyed some of the best form in their history last season as they secured a top-ten finish by winning six of their last games in the Premier League.
Palace were the form team in the country and much of the praise went to head coach Oliver Glasner, who only took charge in February
Glasner’s performance at Palace, even during his short spell, did not go unnoticed with Bayern Munich making a move for him and for this reason The Eagles are ready to take action.
Eagles looking at new long-term deal for Oliver Glasner
HITC understands that Crystal Palace are considering tying down highly-rated coach Oliver Glasner to a new long-term deal.
Palace rejected an approach from Bayern early in the summer when they tried to land him before appointing Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel’s successor.
Glasner insisted he was not interested in Bayern having guided Palace to a brilliant finish to the season – as they finished 10th, equalling their best ever.
But Palace, who tied down sporting director Dougie Freedman to fresh terms earlier this summer after he decided against joining Newcastle United, are looking at Glasner’s contract.
HITC sources suggest that Palace believe they have a ‘special’ coach in Glasner and have seen enough in him already to want tie him down to a longer deal. The Austrian has two-years left on his current deal.
Sources have told HITC that they would also hope that their commitment to Glasner would help them keep hold of some of their top players – with the likes of Eze and Marc Guehi linked with moves away from the club having already seen Michael Olise join Bayern Munich.
Glasner himself has admitted that the progress he has made would help keep some of his bigger names.
“We all did what we can do as Crystal Palace, we showed them that we have ambition, we showed them how we want to play, which path we want to go, which journey we want to ride all together, and that they can play a crucial part in it,” said Glasner after the final game of the season which saw Palace claim a 5-0 win over Aston Villa.
“They can show their qualities, they can show their strengths, they can show their personality, they can express themselves, and that fits together.
“This is what we can do, and if something else happens it’s part of football.”
