Mark Sheehan left everything he owned to his family.
The Script’s Mark Sheehan left his substantial £9.4million (€11 million) fortune to his family. Mark died aged 46 following a short illness in April 2023.
His untimely death deeply affected his fans and bandmates, but he ensured that those closest to him were well provided for. Mark Sheehan, a father-of-three who lived in the US with his wife Rina, left a staggering £9.4 million estate to his loved ones.
Before joining The Script, Dublin-born Mark was a former member of the band MyTown, along with bandmate Danny. The band was formed in 2001, with drummer Glen Power, reports the Irish Mirror.
After signing with Sony Label Group, Mark, Danny, and Glen relocated to London and released their debut self-titled album in 2008. The trio sold millions of albums and received two Brit nominations, three Meteor Ireland Music Awards, and two World Music Awards.
After Mark’s death, a statement from the band, famous for hits like Man Who Can’t Be Moved, Superheroes, Hall of Fame, read: “Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
The music world was left in mourning just over a year ago when fans learned of his unexpected passing.
Lead singer Danny O’Donoghue revealed last week that he started smoking and drinking heavily after Mark’s death. He said: “Around Christmas time, I went off the rails after Mark passed away. Like everybody does. Drinking, smoking, everything. I went on a mental block. I had a writer’s block for a long time last year.”
He added: “It was the first time I was really able to articulate what I thought about the situation and the floodgates really opened then, as far as being creative. I want to face the grief stone cold sober. If you don’t, you’re only kicking it down the street.”
The band is now continuing as a four-piece with bassist Ben Sargeant and guitarist Ben Weaver. Danny said: “After the year that we’ve had last year, we could do with a bit of positivity. It’s a new chapter for The Script moving forward.”
