On what was looking like a celebratory night at Citizens Bank Park turned to possible disaster for the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night.
Before the game against the Florida Marlins, Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper was named as a starter to the 2024 MLB All-Star game after securing the most votes in the National League following the first phase of voting.

After being squeezed by the umpire on a potential inning-ending strike three call, Wheeler was pulled and relief pitcher Matt Strahm allowed two inherent runners to score and another to blow the lead en route to a 7-4 loss.
But that wasn’t the worst news, as two of the Phillies best hitters went down with injuries. Here’s the latest.

Is Bryce Harper hurt?
Down three in the ninth, Harper came up lame after grounding out to first base. As he approached the bag, Harper grabbed for his left hamstring before limping off.
Harper told reporters after the game that he wasn’t sure how bad the injury was but that “I’ve never felt anything like this before.”

The injury comes after Harper received his 8th All-Star game nob. He’s hitting .303 with 20 home runs, 52 runs and 58 RBI following Thursday’s game.
Bryce Harper injury update
Unfortunately, Phillies fans will have to wait for updates on Harper. The team said after Thursday’s game that Harper is expected to go for an MRI on Friday.
Kyle Schwarber injury
As if potentially losing Harper wasn’t enough, slugger Kyle Schwarber also went down with an injury. He left the game in the ninth after experiencing left groin tightness while running the bases.
After the game, Schwarber told reporter that he didn’t feel like the injury was serious.
“We’ll come in tomorrow and see how it feels,” Schwarber said.
On the season, the leadoff hitter is batting .250 with 17 home runs, 60 runs and 49 RBI.
Phillies injury news
Before Thursday’s game, the Phillies place right right-handed starter Spencer Turnbull on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain. He sustained the injury during a start against his former team, the Detroit Tigers, on Wednesday.
Manager Rob Thomson said Turnbull will miss six to eight weeks, according to a reporter by Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer on X.
To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte was recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley.

The second phase of voting, which begins on Sunday, June 30, features six Phillies players – Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, Brandon Marsh, and Nick Castellanos. In this phase, vote totals will reset and fans can vote one time per day through 12 p.m. ET on July 3.
