Punch Line Comedy Club is giving Houston the superstar treatment for its grand opening.
The renowned venue has booked Dave Chappelle as its first guest. Chappelle will perform Sept. 6 and 7 at the new location. Tickets are on sale now.
Punch Line announced earlier this summer it was coming to Houston at 1204 Caroline, inside the former House of Blues restaurant space. The venue has a capacity of 250 people.
Consider yourself lucky if you snag a ticket to see Chappelle. His last show in Houston was at Toyota Center. Before that, he did a string of dates at the tiny House of Blues Bronze Peacock Room that sold out in seconds.
Amanda Thompsen, Punch Line’s head of comedy operations, said “seeing a comedic icon in this incredibly intimate venue will be a memorable experience for Houston comedy fans.”
The first Punch Line opened in San Francisco in 1978 and was a training ground for many future superstars, including Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Ellen DeGeneres and Drew Carey. The club also hosted early performances by Zach Galifianakis, Amy Schumer, Hannibal Buress, Ali Wong and Margaret Cho.
Chappelle once performed a six-hour set there and has called it “the best comedy club in the U.S.A.”
The Houston lineup also includes Mark Curry, Chaunté Wayans and Vladimir Caamaño.
