After a hiatus from competitive basketball, during which he worked as a physical education teacher in Nevada, graduate student Dylan Hushaw has returned to college basketball with the University of Providence Argos.
Hushaw’s basketball journey includes playing for Miles Community College and the University of Minnesota Crookston. At Miles Community College, he averaged 16.8 points per game during the 2020-21 season, showcasing his scoring ability.
After completing his tenure at Minnesota Crookston in the 2021-22 season, Hushaw returned to Nevada, where he graduated from college and secured a full-time job as a physical education teacher. During this period, he played basketball recreationally, participating in men’s leagues once or twice a week. The possibility of returning to collegiate basketball emerged around December 2023, leading to a swift transition. By May 2024, Hushaw had committed to joining the University of Providence.
Balancing his teaching responsibilities with preparations for a return to competitive basketball was challenging. Initially, his playing time was limited due to work commitments. However, after the school year concluded, Hushaw intensified his training regimen, dedicating himself to basketball workouts twice daily, complemented by additional running sessions.
Hushaw credits his role as a physical education teacher for maintaining a high-energy mindset, which facilitated his transition back into the demands of collegiate athletics. He expressed enthusiasm about his current experience at Providence, noting a positive shift in focus and a rewarding season thus far.
As of now, Hushaw and the Argos hold a 4-7 record, with their next game scheduled against Dickinson State in Billings on December 28.
Hushaw’s journey reflects a dedication to both his professional career in education and his passion for basketball, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in returning to collegiate sports after time away.
