After His I-Cubs Start With the Athletic Trainer, Cade Horton
When it’s the organization’s best pitching prospect – one of the best overall in the sport – and he’s at Triple-A, knocking on the door of the big leagues, it is especially difficult not to freak out about any kind of injury scare.
So I will try not to freak out about the following, but I will fail:
As I-Cubs broadcaster Alex Cohen reports, something must’ve happened between innings with Cade Horton, because he did his warmup tosses, and then left with the athletic trainer.
A quick look at Horton’s pitches in the first doesn’t show any huge alarm bells (the velocity looks more or less normal), though he did give up a triple and a homer, the latter of which was absolutely crushed.
Hopefully we’ll have more information soon, and hopefully it’s something super innocuous and super precautionary. We don’t always get injury updates quickly on minor league players, but for our collective mental health, maybe this one will come a faster than usual.
UPDATE: It came fast, thanks to Jesse Rogers: “Back soreness for the Cubs top pitching prospect. He’ll be further evaluated.”
Obviously NO injury type is considered a “good” thing, but among the possibilities, this feels like one on the lesser scary side of things. Hopefully it isn’t serious, and it just needs some rest and modest rehab.
