“Aaron Glenn to my understanding is open to it, Aaron Rodgers as well,” Rap Sheet says of the Jets keeping the QB in place. “Expect those conversations to ramp up in the coming weeks.”
Both Aarons – Glenn and Rodgers – are apparently looking at the future as a positive blank page … a good way for the New York Jets to take a positive step into 2025.
The Jets made a major move, of course, by hiring Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. Naturally, immediately questions are now being asked on whether he would want Aaron Rodgers around in 2025.
A source told ESPN that Glenn still sees Rodgers as “elite,” but will all involved see eye-to-eye when it comes to everything from the playbook to talent evaluation to a power structure that for Rodgers’ two years here have allowed him an unusual amount of in-the-building authority?
In the end, will Rodgers want to return next season, or will he ride off into the sunset?
In the end, with Glenn gladly guide the 41-year old four-time MVP toward that horizon?
For most, both options are firmly on the table, and there is conflicting news from national voices here.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini has offered up an interesting nugget regarding Rodgers’ future in the Big Apple.
“I don’t know exactly what Aaron Glenn—how he feels about Aaron Rodgers,” Russini said on the Scoop City podcast. “But, I can tell you that it would not surprise me if the Jets turn the page on Aaron Rodgers and move on.”
But the respected Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is leaning in another direction, reporting on Sunday morning that both Aarons are “open” to the idea of a double-move forward … together.
“Aaron Glenn to my understanding is open to it, Rodgers as well,” Rap Sheet said. “Expect those conversations to ramp up in the coming weeks.”
Ultimately, the Jets will make the decision collectively, and this is all predicated on Rodgers wanting to return and play in 2025. If he doesn’t, work must be done to get another starter into the building.
Having Rodgers come back would give the Jets some familiarity in Glenn’s first season as head coach and would allow New York to have a decent level of quarterback play as Glenn works his way through his first year.
But the sooner the Jets find out one way or another, the sooner they can begin to move forward toward the offseason.
