If you choose to transfer from South Carolina for the wrong reason, Shane Beamer will always remember.
Shane Beamer has yet again thrown some shade at a former player, but it is all for the right reasons. Towards the middle of the season, Beamer shared that linebacker Bangally Kamara would be entering the transfer portal at the end of the season and he helped him reach that decision.
Initially, Kamara was going to redshirt for the season after playing in just four games. This was all after Kamara played four years at Pitt, and this was his first season with the Gamecocks. Beamer felt it was best he entered the transfer portal and moved on to the program. Kamara announced recently he would be transferring to Kansas for the next season.
So Beamer has had his fair share of experience of talking with players who want to enter the transfer portal. In his Tuesday press conference, Beamer shared a story of one player in particular who chose to transfer at the end of last season, and Beamer hasn’t forgotten what he said.
Now Beamer didn’t name who this player was, but everyone has a good idea of who the South Carolina head coach was talking about. The assumption is that he is talking about former wide receiver Juice Wells who transferred from the program last season and ended up at SEC rival Ole Miss.
This player chose to talk about how he didn’t think South Carolina would be any good this season because they didn’t have a quarterback, and that was why he wanted to transfer. Clearly, Beamer didn’t agree, and right now, Beamer is looking like the one who was right with the way that redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers has been playing this season.
Juice Wells didn’t think Shane Beamer would keep the receipts
Juice Wells spent two seasons at South Carolina after transferring from James Madison in 2022. In his first season with the Gamecocks, Wells had 68 receptions for 928 yards and six touchdowns as one of South Carolina’s leading wide receivers. Unfortunately, injury struck in his second season with the Gamecocks as he injured his foot over the summer. While he played in the first game, he had an early exit, and that was the end of his season.
Now, with Ole Miss, Wells is just one of the many mouths to feed on the offense for quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose production has gone down. So far this season, Wells only has 26 receptions for 496 yards, but he does have five touchdowns on the season.
When Wells faced South Carlina this season early on, the Gamecocks were able to hold him to just three receptions, but one of them went for 66 yards, which was the bulk of his yard on the day. Wells ended with 97 yards, but Gamecock fans were able to get some laughs in when Wells had a big catch for what would have been a touchdown, but instead, he fumbled it out of the endzone for a touchback.
Wells probably didn’t think Beamer would remember what he said that day when he was telling him he wanted to transfer. While Beamer was nice enough not to actually name the player, it seems pretty obvious it was Wells when Beamer said it was an offensive player and he was talking about the quarterback situation.
So for future reference, don’t talk bad about Shane Beamer’s team because he will remember and he will throw shade at you to prove a point.
