Sky Sports Pundits in Full Agreement Over Controversial Celtic vs. Hearts Penalty Call

Sky Sports pundits found themselves completely aligned in their assessment of the key penalty decision during the Celtic versus Heart of Midlothian clash at Parkhead.

Shortly before the halftime whistle, Martin O’Neill’s side was awarded a spot kick following a handball incident involving Hearts’ Alexandros Kyziridis.

The visitors had taken the lead just minutes earlier, with Lawrence Shankland nodding home from a corner at the far post in the 43rd minute.

But Celtic hit back deep into stoppage time, as Arne Engels kept his composure to slot home from the penalty mark and level the scores.

Referee Don Robertson pointed to the spot after Kieran Tierney’s cross struck the arm of Kyziridis, who had slid to the ground in an attempt to block the ball from entering the box.

A VAR check followed, but the on-field decision was upheld.

Pundits James McFadden, Scott Brown, and John Robertson were all in agreement that the referee got it right.

McFadden said: “No [there is no doubt], but there can be sympathy. When Kyziridis goes to ground, there is nowhere else he can put his hand, but by the laws of the game it is a penalty kick. I don’t think there can be any complaints. It is a penalty kick, there is no doubt.”

Brown added: “I do sympathise, but it is clear and obvious. It has hit his hand, nice and easy. Even Robbo is going to agree with us here!”

Hearts legend John Robertson then joked: “Penalty Celtic, shock. It doesn’t matter what team you are; you want a penalty for that, his hand is up. It is hit at him from about a yard away, but if your hand is in that position, 99 times out of 100 you are going to get a penalty.”
