Netflix to Release Paige Spiranac Documentary Chronicling Her Rise, Controversies, and Impact on Golf Culture
April 20, 2025 — Los Angeles, CA
Netflix is taking a swing at the world of golf with a brand-new documentary centered on one of the sport’s most polarizing and influential figures—Paige Spiranac. Titled “Breaking the Mold: The Paige Spiranac Story”, the film is set to premiere globally on June 14 and promises to offer a revealing, in-depth look at the life and career of the social media icon, athlete, and outspoken advocate for change in golf.
The documentary will chart Spiranac’s unconventional path from junior golf prodigy to collegiate athlete, and from professional tour hopeful to global influencer and entrepreneur. With over 5 million followers across platforms and a voice that’s challenged golf’s deeply traditional norms, Spiranac has carved out a unique space in a sport often slow to evolve—and that’s exactly what the documentary explores.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Lauren Rivas (“Untold: Glory Days”), the documentary features never-before-seen footage from Spiranac’s early career, including private moments from her time at the University of Arizona and San Diego State, as well as candid interviews with coaches, fellow players, critics, and fans.
“We wanted to go beyond the headlines and hashtags,” Rivas said. “This isn’t just a story about golf or social media—it’s about the courage it takes to stand out in a world that demands conformity. Paige’s journey is raw, complicated, and more influential than many people realize.”
“Breaking the Mold” doesn’t shy away from controversy, either. The film dives into the public scrutiny Spiranac faced for her appearance, online presence, and outspoken opinions—especially as she challenged long-held gender norms in golf and advocated for more inclusive and modern standards. It also touches on the mental toll of cyberbullying and the challenges of navigating fame in a sport steeped in tradition.
Spiranac, who is an executive producer on the project, says she hopes the film will inspire others to own their identity without fear. “People have made assumptions about me for years without knowing the full story,” she said in a press release. “This documentary shows the highs, the lows, the things I’ve never said publicly—and why I’ll never stop pushing for a better future in golf.”
In addition to personal moments and interviews, the film explores Spiranac’s current role as a media personality and brand ambassador, from podcast hosting and charitable work to her growing influence on how younger generations perceive golf.
Netflix is positioning “Breaking the Mold” as more than just a sports documentary—it’s a statement on how social media, gender politics, and personal branding are transforming even the most traditional of sports. And with Spiranac at the center, it’s certain to attract both longtime fans and curious newcomers.
The documentary premieres exclusively on Netflix on June 14.
