Rodgers’s buddy has played in the NFL for seven seasons – and all with the 20-year veteran.
THE New York Jets have made a move concerning Aaron Rodgers’s close pal after the 41-year-old’s departure.
The Jets cut Rodgers last month after two disappointing seasons from the four-time NFL MVP.
On Thursday, it was revealed that the Jets and wide receiver Allen Lazard agreed to a revised contract.
Lazard has accepted an $8.5 million pay cut, according to Over The Cap.
The 29-year-old was set to make $11 million in 2025, which made him a likely cut for the Jets.
However, Lazard’s new deal will give him a base salary of $2.25 million, including a $1.75 million guarantee.
He will become a free agent after the 2025 season.
Last week, Jets general manager Darren Mougey shared at the NFL’s annual league meeting that the “hope” was that Lazard would stay on the team under a revised deal.
Lazard signed a four-year, $44 million deal with the Jets in 2023 before they signed Rodgers, his former quarterback with the Green Bay Packers.
The Jets said goodbye to Rodgers and hello to the 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields, whom they signed to a two-year, $40 million deal last month.
Gang Green has mostly let go of any of Rodgers’ buddies that they signed to make him want to join the team.
Last month, the Jets gave Lazard’s agent permission to seek a trade, but there has yet to be a partner.
Rodgers has been heavily linked with the Pittsburgh Steelers and could be a trade destination for Lazard.
His new salary allows not only the Jets but also other teams to feel comfortable about utilizing his services as a third or fourth wideout.
Lazard is coming off a semi-productive season for the Jets.
He recorded 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games before getting injured.
But Lazard’s tenure in New York has been overwhelmingly lackluster, given his previous contract.
He posted 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown in a 2023 season when Rodgers went down with a season-ending injury just four plays into the year.
Nonetheless, Lazard’s cap number will go from $13.2 million to $4.6 million in 2025.
The 2025 Jets will be led by new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.
