The Georgia Bulldogs have brought in former South Carolina Gamecocks linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams as a new addition to their coaching staff. Allen-Williams most recently worked as the assistant linebackers coach for the USC Trojans.
At this time, Georgia has not officially announced what role Allen-Williams will take on, but he is considered an up-and-coming coach with strong potential in the profession. His playing experience at South Carolina makes him a valuable asset, as he totaled 176 tackles and 6.5 sacks during his collegiate career from 2014 to 2018.
A native of Ellenwood, Georgia, Allen-Williams has deep ties to the state. He played high school football at Cedar Grove High School, one of Georgia’s premier high school programs, known for developing top football talent. His return to Georgia represents a homecoming of sorts, as he now has the opportunity to contribute to one of the nation’s top college football programs.
Beyond his playing ability, Allen-Williams was also a team captain at South Carolina, showcasing leadership qualities that should serve him well in his new role at Georgia. He will be working with an experienced defensive coaching staff that includes defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann, as well as outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.
Georgia’s inside linebacker group is one of the strongest position groups on the team, filled with highly skilled players. However, the Bulldogs are dealing with significant turnover in their front seven, having lost seven of their top eight sack producers from the 2024 season. As a result, the defense will rely on several young and inexperienced players to step up and contribute this fall.
The addition of Allen-Williams could help the Bulldogs in their transition as they rebuild their pass rush. With his background as both a player and a coach, he brings valuable knowledge and leadership that could aid in player development, particularly for Georgia’s linebackers. While his exact responsibilities within the program remain unclear, his presence on the coaching staff is expected to be beneficial as Georgia looks to maintain its defensive dominance in the upcoming season.
