Florida State University (FSU) is actively pursuing top defensive talent to bolster its football program. Recently, the Seminoles have been identified as a leading contender for elite defensive prospects, reflecting the coaching staff’s commitment to strengthening the team’s defensive capabilities.
One notable development is FSU’s recruitment of four-star defensive end James Johnson. Johnson, an in-state prospect, attended FSU’s Junior Day event, marking his first visit to the campus. During his visit, he engaged with the coaching staff, including long-time defensive line coach Odell Haggins and newly appointed defensive line coach Terrance Knighton. Johnson expressed appreciation for the staff’s approach and the program’s vision, indicating a positive impression of FSU.
In addition to Johnson, FSU has secured commitments from other promising defensive talents. Antonio Cromartie Jr., son of former NFL All-Pro Antonio Cromartie Sr., committed to FSU as part of the 2025 recruiting class. Cromartie Jr., a defensive back from Carrollton High School in Georgia, had an impressive senior season with 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups, and one interception. His commitment continues the Cromartie legacy at FSU.
These efforts are part of FSU’s broader strategy to enhance its defensive roster by attracting top-tier talent. The coaching staff’s proactive engagement with recruits and their families underscores the program’s dedication to building a formidable defense for the upcoming seasons.
