COLUMBIA — Who knows if it’s ever over? Just on Friday night, a Wisconsin player left for Miami without entering the transfer portal and after he had already signed a revenue-sharing contract with the Badgers.
But after the initial group of transfers departed South Carolina when the regular season concluded, a few more did after the Citrus Bowl, some of the freshmen and newcomer transfers arrived and others departed early for the NFL— one way early — there’s a pretty strong idea of what the Gamecocks’ roster will look like as spring practice arrives.
The breakdown:
Departures
Seniors: OL Kamaar Bell, QB Davis Beville, DB Joseph Byrnes, WR Dalevon Campbell, Edge Gilber Edmond, DB King Demenian-Ford, CB O’Donnell Fortune, DT Tonka Hemingway, PK Alex Herrera, DT Boogie Huntley, DT DeAndre Jules, LB Demetrius Knight, P Kai Kroeger, WR Gage Larvadain, C Vershon Lee, LB Bam Martin-Scott, RB Juju McDowell, WR Aaron Morton, LS Hunter Rogers, RB Rocket Sanders, TE Josh Simon, OL Torricelli Simpkins, DB David Spaulding, LB Debo Williams
Martin-Scott may have a lifeline to return to school, due to the Diego Pavia rule where junior college eligibility may not count toward a player’s full college clock. Yet it seems to be a long shot at best, since Martin-Scott began his eligibility a year before Pavia did.
The Gamecocks’ 2025 roster at present does not list Martin-Scott, and his No. 22 jersey number has already been redistributed.
Transfers (with new school, if applicable): LB Bangally Kamara (Kansas, left midseason), OL Ni Mansell (South Alabama), DT Jamaal Whyce, LB Mo Kaba, WR Tyshawn Russell (Syracuse), TE Reid Mikeska (Florida Atlantic), RB DJay Braswell (Georgia State), PK Daniel Lester, WR C.J. Adams, TE Connor Cox (North Carolina), WR Debron Gatling (Georgia Tech), WR Elijah Caldwell, TE Nick Elksnis (UNLV), QB Robby Ashford (Wake Forest), Edge Elijah Davis, WR Payton Mangrum, OL Aaryn Parks
NFL draft underclassmen: Edge Kyle Kennard, DT T.J. Sanders, S Nick Emmanwori.
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains left to become head coach at Appalachian State.
The Gamecocks came out much better in terms of transfer departures than last year when several key starters and producers left. The only ones who really contributed this year were Ashford, LaNorris Sellers’ top backup at quarterback who started the win over Akron, and Mangrum, who was on the field for multiple snaps but never broke out with a huge receiving performance.
