It has been more than a decade since Louisville joined the ACC. With Saturday’s win against Virginia, they added another accomplishment.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The “ReviVILLE” continues in a positive direction for Pat Kelsey and his Louisville Cardinals as they made program history Saturday.
The Cards (14-5, 7-1 ACC) topped the Cavaliers 81-67 to complete a regular season sweep of Virginia (8-10, 1-6) for the first time since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014. It was also their first win over Virginia in Louisville since Feb. 9. 2020.
Louisville also earned a road win over UVA on Jan. 4. The Cards won that game 70-50, marking the first time they won at Virginia in 35 years.
Overall, Louisville is 7-24 in the all-time series against UVA with a 5-11 mark at home.
The Cardinals led 22 seconds into the game Saturday and never looked back. They were led by Reyne Smith’s 19 points and a double-double from James Scott with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Louisville earned its eighth straight victory.
Kelsey said his team wants to be the most physical every time they take the floor.
“It’s playing hard with grit and tenacity, and they make it hard,” he said.
The attendance at the KFC Yum! Center was announced as 18,233. It was the largest crowd for a Louisville game since Jan. 29, 2022.
