There’s a new face coaching at South Carolina in 2025.
A team source confirmed to The State on Saturday that the Gamecocks are hiring Davis Koetter to an analyst-type role.
The son of former Arizona State and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter spent the past two seasons at staff with Texas for the Longhorns, who made it to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals.
In 2023, Koetter was a graduate assistant working with the quarterbacks — in the room with Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning every day. This past season, Koetter was elevated to analyst and worked predominately with the Longhorns’ tight ends.
While the source noted that South Carolina and Koetter haven’t discussed titles yet, given Koetter’s background it is likely that he will be working on the offensive side of the ball.
“Coaching football has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember,” Koetter said on 95.3 FM in Boise this past week. “Being in it the last two years has confirmed me and validated my desire to do it. And that I can be good at it.”
A former high school quarterback at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Koetter moved to wide receiver in college — spending three years at Portland State and two more at Boise State.
With his dad serving as Boise State’s offensive coordinator during the back half of his redshirt senior season, Koetter caught 14 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown.
