Caitlin Clark motivated, not disappointed after not receiving Olympic invitation
After learning she will not be a member of the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s basketball team representing the United States, Caitlin Clark expressed excitement for those who will receive the opportunity.
“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,” said Clark. I know it’s the most competitive team in the world, and I know it could’ve gone either way of me being on the team, not being on the team. I’m excited for them. I’m going to be rooting them on to win gold. I’m a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, so it’ll be fun to watch them.”
Clark was previously invited to the Olympic Training Camp in Cleveland, Ohio April 3-5, but was unable to attend due to the Iowa Hawkeyes reaching the Final Four.
So far in her WNBA career, Clark is averaging 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists through 12 games, and was named the WNBA Rookie of the Month in May. Clark plans to use this as motivation.
“Honestly no disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work for. It’s a dream, hopefully one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation, you’ll remember that, and hopefully in four years, when four years comes around, I can be there.”
The United States women’s basketball team is historically one of the most dominant teams among all Olympic sports. The United States has not lost a game in Olympic competition since 1992, and have claimed seven straight gold medals.
Clark hopes to represent the United States in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
