A Newport man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the stabbing death of a 22-year-old in 2021, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office announced on Friday.
yrese Poulsen, who previously pleaded nolo contendere to one count of manslaughter, was sentenced to 30 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions on Friday.
He was convicted for the death of 22-year-old Maximus Julian at a house party in 2021.
The house party was being held on May 29 at a residence on Thames Street in Newport.
Prosecutors say the victim suffered stab wounds to the neck and torso from a stake knife.
Witnesses told investigators that an attendee attempted to escort the victim from the party and after a physical altercation broke out involving several people, Poulsen ran to the kitchen to get a knife before the stabbing.
The victim was taken to the hospital and then died.
