SOUTHBOROUGH — A Marlborough man has died after a car crash Sunday afternoon on Main Street, authorities said.
The victim was identified on Monday as Anthony Severance, 23.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends at this time,” Police Chief Ryan Newell said in a prepared statement.

Police and Fire departments responded to the area of 103 Main St. (Route 30) at about 5 p.m. for a report of a car crash, according to a press release. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle in flames with the driver still pinned inside.
Police shut down Main Street while firefighters extinguished the flames. Severance was declared dead at the scene.
Newell on Monday said Severance, for an unknown reason, lost control of his car, spun out and crashed into a utility pole. The utility pole snapped and landed on another car driving by.
No one in the second vehicle was injured, the chief said.
Main Street remained closed until approximately 9:15 a.m. Monday. Both National Grid and Verizon worked to repair the utility pole and downed wires affected by the crash.
The crash is being investigated by the Southborough Police Department and Massachusetts State Police. The cause is not known but speed is possibly a factor, police said.
